The Mum Desk
For HR, People teams and employers

Family-friendly policies.
Practical help alongside them.

An employee can have a return date and agreed working hours, while still facing a long list of arrangements to make at home.

Childcare enquiries, school applications, holiday cover, appointments and family moves all take research and coordination. The Mum Desk gives working parents dedicated help with those tasks, through support funded by their employer.

A more organised return

Bring childcare options, settling-in dates, journeys and family handovers into a clear plan before an employee returns after maternity or parental leave.

Support through family change

Help an employee compare options and coordinate next steps when moving home, starting school or adapting to new family circumstances.

Help with the everyday load

Progress agreed appointment enquiries, renewals, forms and comparisons, with clear updates on what is complete and what still needs a decision.

A practical addition to wellbeing

Offer individual research and organisation alongside your existing HR support, employee assistance programme or parental mentoring.

What would practical support look like for your team?

Tell me about the challenges your working parents face and the support you already offer. We can explore a focused project or a wider programme shaped around your organisation.

Discuss support for your team

Scope, availability and fees are agreed privately before work begins.

What practical support can look like

Real tasks.
Clear deliverables.

These fictional examples illustrate how support could work. They are not previous client projects or measured results.

Returning after leave

Making the return plan practical

A parent has agreed working hours, but needs childcare that fits their commute and school collection.

The work

Compare local options against hours, journey time and budget; make agreed availability enquiries; organise settling-in and handover dates.

The handover

An options comparison, enquiry log and a dated action plan. Places remain subject to provider confirmation.

A family transition

Coordinating a move

An employee is moving with children while preparing to start work in a new location.

The work

Research school and nursery processes, compare practical arrangements and organise key dates, dependencies and responsibilities.

The handover

A transition timetable showing what is confirmed, what is pending and who needs to act.

Everyday family admin

Progressing the waiting list of tasks

Appointments, a household renewal and an application deadline have built up.

The work

Gather appointment options, prepare an information checklist and track deadlines. Progress follow-up only with the employee’s authority.

The handover

A concise status tracker with costs, approvals needed and next actions. Personal declarations stay with the employee.

A few useful details

Before we talk.

Is all support virtual?

Yes. Support is delivered through video calls, email and shared documents. I research local options remotely; employees attend visits and appointments themselves.

Can this sit alongside our existing benefits?

Yes. We begin by understanding what you already offer and where individual research or organising could help. The scope is agreed to complement your existing support.

What does the employer receive?

We agree service-use updates and any feedback reporting before launch. Personal family plans and sensitive details are not routinely shared with HR. Small groups can be identifiable, so reporting is handled carefully.

Can an individual contact you directly?

Yes. Mums can enquire for themselves, as well as through an employer. We agree the brief, availability and fees before any work starts.

What are the limits of the service?

The Mum Desk provides practical research, organisation and signposting. It does not provide childcare, provider vetting, emergency cover or regulated advice. Providers confirm places and eligibility; employers decide workplace arrangements.

How much does it cost?

Support is scoped and quoted individually. Tell me what you need help with and I will explain the proposed work and fees before you decide.
